Art Gallery Vanda presents Yes or No, a solo exhibition by Mariam Shakarashvili.
Mariam Shakarashvili’s exhibition Yes or No brings together recent paintings by the young artist that clearly reveal her aspiration toward abstraction. The exhibition presents works that, despite their varying themes, are united by a cohesive concept.
Mariam draws inspiration from asemic writing; the text in her works is difficult to read and offers the viewer freedom of interpretation. The images contain information embedded in memory, which humans have carried since time immemorial.
On her canvases, the rhythmic structures of Georgian letters, symbols, and signs form original compositions — a visual language that evokes emotion and invites viewers into a dialogue. The abstract hints offered by the artist allow for endless interpretation, unfolding before us like an interesting book.
The exhibition’s title — Yes or No — refers to one of Mariam’s key earlier works, inspired by words she encountered in the Gospel. To her, “Yes” and “No” symbolize meaningful choice, freedom, and spiritual clarity.
Yes or no is an everyday dilemma that every person must resolve in their own way. Opening: Friday, May 30, 18:00
