Oleg Timchenko is one of the members of an avant-garde group that was active in the late 1980s and early 1990s, known as “X Floor”.

Members of this group were one of the first artists to be conscious of postmodern art and present it in their own context during the period of “perestroika” – a time of great change.

At that time, the Georgian audience was not familiar with the formats – artistic action or performance. Abstract painting was also associated only with a dissident position.

Oleg Timchenko was one of the first to offer these formats to Georgian society.

Along with artistic reactions to topical and problematic topics, history, literature, the legacy of romanticism and symbolism remain a constant theme in Oleg Timchenko’s painting. For fans of his work, there are emotionally charged, peculiar mood states, where a meditative trance turns into a visual image and shows the inseparability with nature, the “knowledge” of its language and a kind of endless existence. Such is the “silence” when the birch forest with its rhythm acquires a musical sound and, at the same time, a touch of the eternal, like a couple completely merged with nature in the “Field of Smiles”.

Oleg Timchenko is an artist who, along with romantic-symbolist visions, presents a conceptual performance or completes a completely decorative and fairy-tale series with his characteristic light humor.
