Lev Bayakhchev (born September 7, 1930, Tbilisi – died December 26, 1992, ibid.) is a painter. Honored Artist of Georgia (1985), worked in Georgia.
He was born in 1930 in Tbilisi (Tiflis), Georgia, on September 7, 1930, to the civil engineer S. G. Bayakhchev’s family.
• 1953-1959, after graduating from high school, studied at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. Studied with artists prof. S. S. Kobuladze’s, prof. V. I. Shukhaev’s, prof. A.K. Kutateladze’s, prof. K. Sanadze’s studios. Graduated from the Academy with honors.
• 1954 Awarded for excellent studies with a trip to St. Petersburg (former Leningrad) and Moscow. Acquaintance with museum treasures was of great importance for improving his artistic culture and professional skills.
• In 1955, he married a resident of St. Petersburg, E. M. Milyakova, with whom he spent his whole life. From this marriage he had two children. His children – Janna and Sergo – inherited their artistic talent from their father.
• 1959 participates in the exhibition of graduation works of students of higher art educational institutions of the USSR, Moscow. Lev Bayakhchev’s graduation work is a triptych “Poets of the Revolution”, oil on canvas 254 x 550 cm. (“Mayakovsky and Blok”).
• In 1961 he presented his work “Miners” at the All-Union Exhibition in Moscow, 1960, Moscow, oil on canvas 180 x 360 cm.
• Since 1961 he has been constantly participating in autumn-spring exhibitions.
• 1962 State Art Gallery of Georgia, Tbilisi.
• Since 1963 – Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR.
• 1965 Exhibitions in the art galleries of Georgia – painting “Return of the Hero”, 1964, oil on canvas 170 x 140 cm.
• 1973 Moscow. Exhibition-export sale. 6 works were presented and sold.
• 1974 the first personal exhibition in an apartment kindly provided by Elene Akhvlediani. Personal exhibition in the building of the Society for Friendship and Cultural Relations of Georgia, Tbilisi.
• 1979 exhibition in an art gallery, Tbilisi.
• 1981 exhibition at the artist’s house, Tbilisi.
• 1982 exhibition at the Central House of Artists. Moscow.
• 1983 solo exhibition at the Artist’s House and the National Art Gallery, Tbilisi. Portraits, landscapes, still lifes, graphics, pop art, abstractions were presented.
• 1984 House of Artists, Tbilisi. Personal exhibition of graphics.
• 1985 Lev Bayakhchev was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Georgian SSR.
• 1985 personal exhibition in St. Petersburg. At the Institute of National Economy of the USSR, Tbilisi.
• 1987 Retrospective exhibition of fine arts. Paintings of the 60s. Tbilisi. 10 works were presented.
• 1989 Trip to Germany by invitation. Lev Bayakhchev visited Berlin, Dresden, Potsdam.
• 1990 participation in the auction (Switzerland).
• 1991 exhibition at Tinatin Gallery (Berlin, Germany).
• In 1992, two works were presented and sold at an auction in Tbilisi: Odalisque, 1985, oil on canvas 123 x 66 cm.; “Woman of the East”, 1983, oil on canvas 86 x 86 cm.
• On December 26, 1992, Lev Bayakhchev died suddenly.

• 2009 personal exhibition in the gallery “Baia”, Tbilisi.
• 2010 personal exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the artist Lev Bayakhchev, Museum “Karvasla”, Tbilisi.
• 2010 exhibition at the International Cultural Center “Muza”, Tbilisi.
• 2011 exhibition at the National Museum of Georgia, Tbilisi, Georgia, “Armenian Artists in Georgia”.
• 2012 personal exhibition in the gallery “Vanda”, Tbilisi.
• 2013 exhibition at the National Gallery “80th Anniversary of the Creation of the Union of Artists of Georgia”, Tbilisi.

Lev Bayakhchev was friends with many figures of culture and art. His works are kept in the National Art Museum of Georgia, in the museums of Batumi (Georgia), Telavi (Georgia), Sighnaghi (Georgia), in the Museum of Contemporary Art Zimmerli Museum, New Jersey, USA. Many works are in private collections in Georgia, Russia, Israel, USA, Afghanistan, Italy, Greece, Ukraine, Argentina and Germany.
